The recession and the lack of a real good blockbuster have certainly pegged back the video game industry this year. The low Wii sales suggest a similar story for Nintendo as well. However, Cammie Dunaway who is the executive Vice President of sales and marketing of Nintendo is quite optimistic about the company and wishes to focus on the positives of the company.
The high-spirited person that she is, Cammie has only high hopes about the company and champions. Its assets including Wii and Ds consoles apart from games like Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus which have really created a rage in the market. Dunaway’s optimism may be the result of the recovery that Nintendo has managed to achieve in spite of its poor show in the month of October. The passing month saw Nintendo make a sale of 507,000 Wiis and 320,600 Sony Playstations 3s. The company’s videogame hardware sales shot up to a whopping 457,000 units.
When asked about the reasons that led to the decline in the sales of Wii this year, Dunaway explained that the decline is because of the record sale that company had managed to achieve last year and although the company has done a good job this year as well, the performance of the last year seems to be resonating with the people. Dunaway is of the opinion that the people are still learning to use the capabilities of the company’s platform in innovative ways and finding out how the market can be expanded to consumers.
